Maker of the Month | Wild Child Party + Supply in Long Beach
Finding party supplies that are stylish + modern are actually pretty hard to come by, but luckily Jolie, owner of The Wild Child Party + Supply, got her unbelievably talented hands on the party supply scene + is without a doubt, killing it.
I am so excited to share our new Maker of the Month
The Wild Child Party!
When I co-hosted my friends Bridal Shower a few months ago I was searching for modern, citrus themed decor + was so happy to have found Wild Child's brick + mortar here in Long Beach! I got to chatting with Jolie + knew right away she was one cool chick who had impeccable style + a serious joy for life. You can see that joy in every hand picked item in her store as they deliver funky flair for any celebration. The shop harmonizes super hip finds, fresh decor, bright colored patterns, unique balloons + modern fonts to create a space unlike any party shop I've ever seen.
From teepee piñata's to cake toppers, ice cream cone garlands + tongue in cheek cards, the store is full of bright + stylish party decor. Jolie loves a good party + believes you shouldn't have to settle for anything boring or overused. Feel free to shop online or you can check out the store front in Long Beach + be sure to check out their a m a z i n g balloon bar!
I sat down with Jolie in her shop one sunny morning + we chatted about the joys + challenges of party planning, being a female entrepreneur, what Wild Child Party is all about + what the future has in store for this stellar shop.
meet the maker | Wild Child Party
f+k | Can you give us a little background on you + how you founded Wild Child?
Jolie | It was kind of an accident … As a party planning enthusiast, I always had the desire to open a party shop online or on Etsy. When the opportunity arose my thinking was more about a grab + go pop up shop, which led me down the path of opening a full blown brick + mortar retail space.
f+k | What drew you to running a Brick + mortar, + party supplies in general?
Jolie | Sourcing great party stuff is so time consuming - I wanted to create a one stop shop.
f+k | What all does Wild Child offer?
Jolie | Besides complete party styling services, Wild Child is a complete party supply shop + balloon bar. Paper goods, banners, cake toppers… you name it. The goal was for customers to come in to the shop + then together we could plan the perfect party.
f+k | How did you come up with the name?
Jolie | The wild child is always the life of the party!
f+k | How does your location inspire you?
Jolie | Our location is off the beaten path, but we fell in love with the space instantly. It has so much charm. Big windows, bright, natural light - it is really special. We love being here.
f+k | What’s your favorite piece in the shop right now?
Jolie | I’m a little obsessed with our piñata collection, but the Balloon Bar is the most fun + functional area of the shop.
f+k | Where has some of your work been featured?
Jolie | I was recently featured in the LA Times which blew my mind! On a regular basis my party stylings are featured at Au Fudge up in LA - it is the cutest venue for a kids party I know of in the area.
f+k | What’s been a consistent best seller?
Jolie | The latest + greatest partyware is always a big hit, but balloons are the biggest + most consistent.
f+k | Has Wild Child changed since you started?
Jolie | What started as a one man operation now has a life of its own. I’m really lucky to have such a creative + supportive team - we all are learning + growing in this together.
f+k | Any special events / exhibits / pop-ups / or collaborations coming up?
Jolie | Wild Child is styling several events throughout the remainder of summer! So many cute ideas - we cant wait to share them with you! We are also really excited to be part of the next Create & Cultivate Conference - so many inspiring minds there!
f+k | What’s next for Wild Child?
Jolie | Managing the business is job number one right now. I never expected such rapid growth + am taking it one step at a time. We are tinkering with the idea of our own line of goods - which could be a lot of fun.
F+K | What’s one piece of advice you’d give to female entrepreneurs?
Jolie | Collaborating with other creative women has really produced the work I am most proud of. It is funny how putting aside your ego + working with others actually makes it easier to find your own voice. The less it is a competition the more everyone wins. Oh, + LOVE what you do! Thats what makes it so rewarding.
F+K | How do you define beauty?
Jolie | I find beauty in honesty. Acknowledging short comings or mistakes helps define who we are. Being genuine is what builds trust, friendships + the most beautiful things in our lives.
F+K | whats your life like outside the store?
Jolie | If Wild Child didn't exist, I imagine I would gravitate towards interior decorating. Designing a home or space brings me so much joy, I would do it just for fun. As far as hobbies .... I'm from Lake Tahoe so I really enjoy the outdoors.
You can't not light up + smile when you walk into a store with unicorns, fiddle leaf fig trees, pink flamingo piñata's + rainbow tasseled balloons, so thank you to the entire creative force behind Wild Child Party! Thank you so much Jolie, for hanging with me + sharing your thoughts on life, you're an inspiring being + I am so excited for the future of Wild Child Party!
